A guide to buying the best CBD oils

As CBD becomes more popular, the range of options available grows. In the UK we have a thriving CBD market but not all products are equal, and sadly not all suppliers are what they seem. So how do you decide on buying the best CBD oils? How do you choose a safe, legal and effective CBD product for your needs?

The following article, ‘ A guide to buying the best CBD oils ‘, is designed to guide you through the often confusing world of CBD. We will detail what to look for when buying a good quality, effective CBD oil. You can arm yourself wit this knowledge when buying the best CBD oils.

What is CBD?

Before we delve into what to look for in a quality CBD oil, we first need to understand what CBD is.

The cannabis plant contains more than 100 different chemical compounds known as cannabinoids. These cannabinoids interact with receptors within our bodies own endocannabinoid system (ECS) to trigger various physiological actions. The ECS plays a essential role within the body and cannabinoids are vital for the ECS to function effectively.

One of those cannabinoids is CBD, or cannabidiol. CBD is non-psychoactive, which means it won’t get you high — and there’s a growing body of evidence that it has a number of health benefits. It’s also legal and safe for all the family to use.

Cannabinoids and Terpenes.

It is important at this stage to establish that CBD is not the only beneficial compound found in a good quality, full spectrum CBD oil.

As we have already discussed, the cannabis plant produces over 100 different cannabinoids. Among these cannabinoids, THC and CBD are the most prevalent and the most well understood. But each cannabinoid has its own specific therapeutic properties.

Cannabinoids are a diverse class of chemical compounds that occur naturally in the human body and also in some plants, most notably, cannabis. But cannabinoids are also not the only therapeutic compound found in cannabis. There is thought to be around 400 different compounds, one of the most abundant alongside cannabinoids, being terpenes.

Terpenes are fragrant oils that give cannabis its aromatic diversity. Terpenes, like cannabinoids, interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system. They also have their own beneficial properties, and when taken alongside cannabinoids, produce what’s called the “Entourage Effect”.

A guide to buying the best CBD oils

Now let’s move on to what steps you need to take to ensure you only buy the best CBD oils. There are 3 important questions you need to ask;

1. Is the CBD oil full spectrum or CBD isolate only?

2. How is it made? – The extraction process.

3. Is the company reputable and are you getting what you pay for?

1. Is the CBD oil full spectrum or CBD isolate only?

Now we understand that there are many beneficial compounds found in cannabis, we can discuss the different types of CBD oil available.

There are CBD products on the market that contain CBD alone (made from CBD isolate), and others that contain an array of cannabinoids and terpenes. But what is the difference?

Isolate means that the product contains just the isolated molecule, CBD.  Full spectrum means the product has CBD, other active cannabinoids (such as CBG, CBC, CBD, CBG-A, CBC-A), terpenes, flavonoids, omega-3s and omega-6s that naturally occur in the plant.  This is important because all of these other compounds have therapeutic value.

Also, full spectrum allows for the “entourage effect,” in which the compounds work synergistically to promote a greater response at a lower dose. In fact, research supports that full spectrum CBD is more effective than isolate CBD.

Therefore to make sure you are getting the most health benefits from your CBD oil, always buy a full spectrum oil.

It is also worth noting at this stage that, CBD oils and edibles made from CBD isolate, are now banned in the EU under the Novel Foods Act.

All Feel Supreme CBD products are full spectrum so you can maximise the benefits you receive.

2. How is it made? – The extraction process.

The quality of CBD oil you buy will also be influenced by the way it is created.

The most popular extraction method is CO2 extraction – this allows for plant extraction without using harmful chemicals. CO2 extraction is widely accepted as the best and the safest method of producing CBD oil – it gives a cleaner, purer, safer and more effective high quality end product.

Alcohol extraction is another method used but if you are sensitive to alcohol, this should be avoided. Alcohol extraction in the hands of amateurs can lead to an unsafe CBD product, but in the hands of experienced professionals it is safe and effective.

Our full spectrum extracts are CO2 extracted and cultivated from American, pristine certified soil. They are rich in both cannabinoids and terpenes, and are tested by an independent laboratory.

3. Is the company reputable and are you getting what you pay for?

As CBD becomes more popular, more amateurs and scammers are jumping on the bandwagon. We would always recommend you buy from a reputable company like Feel Supreme. But how do you ascertain whether a company is reputable?

Here are a few ways you can tell whether a company is reputable:

Do they provide third party verifiable lab reports on request?

All reputable companies will be happy to provide lab reports that prove the purity, potency and safety of their CBD products.

Unfortunately some unscrupulous suppliers may attempt to forge or edit lab reports, so it’s important they are “Third party”. This means you can confirm the authenticity of the report from the company who carried out the test to verify the report is genuine, unedited and for the company and product stated.

Does the CBD oil contain “legal” levels of controlled substances like THC?

Studying the lab report will allow you to discover whether the CBD oil you are looking to buy only contains legal trace amounts of THC and other controlled cannabinoids.

Are the company happy to answer your questions or do they seem guarded and suspicious?

A reputable company will be happy to provide you with any information they have about their CBD products. Please feel free to contact us at info@feelsupreme.co.uk to discuss any queries you may have about our products.

Is the company making medical claims?

CBD is sold as a food supplement in the UK. To sell CBD legally, companies are not allowed to make medical claims. If a company is doing so, it may be an indication that they are not reputable.

Beware of those products that claim to “cure everything”. These companies are breaking the law and using misleading advertising to deceive potential customers.

We do not make medical claims, but what we do offer you is a powerful dietary supplement with many beneficial properties.

Are they members of the Cannabis Trade Association UK (CTA UK)?

If you don’t feel confident carrying out your own checks on potential suppliers, then buying from a CTA UK member or registered company could be a good choice. The CTA UK works with all sectors of the hemp and cannabis industry to promote good practice, provide practical advice and ensure consumers of legal cannabis and hemp products have access to top quality information.

Please note, it’s not a legal requirement for CBD companies to register with the CTA UK, but checks are carried out on all members which means you can buy with confidence.
